Our Green Schools Committee

The children of St. Raphaela’s Primary School are working together to care for our planet and to save its precious resources. We are so proud to announce that we have just been awarded our fourth Green Flag!

Our first flag was awarded because we proved that we know how to recycle. We were then awarded our second Green Flag because we learned how to conserve energy. For our third Green Flag we had to prove that we understand the importance of conserving water. Finally, our fourth Green Flag has been awarded because we all worked together to ensure that everyone walks and cycles more, and that we try to leave our cars at home! We even have a “walking bus”!

Our Green Codes and Rules

• We will use paper wisely
•We will try to cut down on rubbish and take our rubbish home
• We will recycle paper, cans, bottle tops and cartridges
• We will mind our school grounds and try to improve them
• We will remember to turn off lights when we leave the school building
• We will keep the school doors closed so as to keep the heat in.
• Turn off the light if it’s bright!
• Have you locked the windows?
• Are the blinds closed?
• Last out shut the door

National Tree Week

The grounds of our school campus are full of many beautiful trees, some of them over 250 years old. We love our trees, because not only do they provide a home for all the birds and animals in the grounds, but they also clean our air and make it very sweet. India’s Dad, Kilian, has presented us with two beautiful trees – a Silver Birch and a Mountain Ash – on behalf of South Dublin County Council, and the whole school enjoyed planting the trees. Fourth Class made some beautiful music in the woods to welcome the trees to their new home.

Healthy Lunch Policy

In our school we try to eat healthy lunches. For first break we have fruit and for our lunch we avoid sweets, crisps and fizzy drinks. Each Friday we can bring a treat in our lunch box.
