What a truly fantastic morning the cake sale was! Huge thanks to Frances and Joy for the volume of work they put into ensuring it was such a lovely day. As always the parents were amazing with huge support on the day. Thanks to Roisin Langley and Paula McKenna for the calendars which are a lovely momento for the girls to keep. Thanks to Aisling Regan for setting up a reindeer food factory at home and doing the reindeer food stand – always a huge hit. There are so many volunteers to thank – the families who baked, who manned the various stands, acted as bankers, set up, cleaned up etc -and all the 6th class girls who were just fabulous- THANK YOU. The atmosphere on the morning was electric. The cake sale raised a phenomenal €5319 in total – €4424 for our school plus €895 from the sale of the Christmas decorations towards the parish fund supporting the Syrian refugees. Thank you everyone!
Car Park Safety Week
Car park safety week begins the week of the 23rd November. The aim of the week is to continue to spread the word about importance of car park safety among the children and parents/guardians. As well as Car Park Duty – which focuses on the parents/guardians – there will also be activities during the day for the children throughout the week.
Thanks Gilly and team for organising and to our army of volunteers for car park duty
Uniform Swap Shop
Our uniform swap shop is now open beside the school hall so if you need something for your daughter just swap for one of your uniform items or we have an honesty system in place – pop €5 in the PA box in the porch
Halloween Disco 2015
What a fabulous disco! Thanks to Aisling Malone for all the hard work and the team of volunteers who helped her dressing the hall, setting up, supervising and cleaning up. Thanks to Paul Clifford our amazing DJ and great to see some of last years’ 6th class girls come back also! Once again the costumes were just outstanding – those for the children, the teachers and the parents!
Our next recycling collection with the NCBI will be collected Friday 6th November so if you are clearing out the summer wardrobe please bag it and drop it into the school the week of the 6th and every bag will raise €6 for the school!
Sr Mary’s Retirement Party- June 2015
In June we said a very fond farewell to the fantastic Sr Mary who had been Principal of St Raphaela’s and worked so hard to make it the school we all love. Thank you Sr Mary! We had such a lovely day with bouncy castles, popcorn, gospel choir Anthem, the Hamleys Bear, David Lloyd Kidsclub and picnics galore! We also took the opportunity to warmly welcome Ms Corry on board as our new Principal whom we very much look forward to working with over the coming years
Communion -May 2015
On May 23rd 2nd class girls made their first holy communion and came back to the school afterwards for a really lovely party provided for by junior and senior infant families and served by first class parents.
A huge thank you is owed to Jane, Emily, Sinead and Paula 1st class reps who put so much work into what was a great day and thank you to all the parents (and girls from 6th and 3rd classes) who helped on the day.
The whole event could not be run without the generosity of the parents of junior and senior infants so our very sincere thank you to them for the most fabulous food and to Clare Cramer from Clare’s Cakes ‘n Bakes for the fab cake and personalised cupcakes!
Our first ever Family Fun Bingo evening featuring the Monster Raffle was much more popular than we ever envisaged and we sold out at 500 tickets. With well over 100 fabulous prizes – bikes, hotel stays, restaurant vouchers, Ireland soccer tickets, the very popular homework passes it was no wonder so a massive, massive thank you to Roisin Langley and Jane Fitzgerald who did trojan wok on the raffle and to our team of volunteers for the bingo!
Cake, Book and Craft Fair – December 2014
Friday 12th December the Badminton Hall once again was packed full of Christmas cheer and festive atmosphere with the wonderful Cake Sale, which was another great success. Many thanks to all the girls, parents, grandparents and friends for supporting this event by baking lots of delicious goodies and coming along to make it such a great day. The Book and DVD stall was busier than ever and thank you to all those who donated the wonderful array that was on offer, especially the board games and jigsaws which were very popular. With Reindeer food and beautifully crafted Christmas Decorations made by the girls on sale, we were spoiled for choice. Thanks to Frances O’Driscoll and Fiona Rowley who organised the event this year and did a fantastic job of it. And of course the team of helpers! The Cake sale raised over €5,000 which will go towards the technology fund for which we are very close to our target of €19,000.
Santa’s Visit – December 2014
Santa arrived to a special grotto at St Raphaelas’ this year and all the children were very excited to see him with his Chief Elf helper Baubles and to receive a little gift from his sack before they said goodbye. We would like to thank Santa for making this special visit to us and many thanks to Stillorgan Village shopping centre for covering all Santa’s travelling expenses!
Halloween Disco 2014
A great night was had by all the girls (and parents and teachers!) of 3rd-6th class on Wednesday 22nd October in the wonderfully spooky decorated School Hall. The costumes were fantastic and you could see that great effort went into all the homemade outfits. The music was brilliant too. Thanks to Philippa and her team for a superbly organised event!
Parents Association AGM 2014
Thank you to all those that attended the Parent Association AGM on Tuesday 14th October last.
Monthly newsletters and minutes of the monthly PA meetings can be viewed by clicking on the Parent Association link in the right hand panel.
Megamix with a bounce!
Megamix 2014 became Megabounce with all the girls participating in space hopper races throughout the morning. There was even a teachers race which all the children enjoyed watching!
Over €7,000 was raised in sponsorship thanks to all the girls and the support of their families, friends and neighbours. This money will go towards the technology fund for the purchase of a classroom set of Tablets which we hope will happen in the Spring Term.
Sports Day 2014
Sports Day at St Raphaelas is a magnificent event. This year was better than ever (if that’s possible!) with army bootcamp activities, a giant bouncy obstacle course and Teddy’s ice-cream van to name but a few! A great day was had by all and it ended with a spectacular closing dance ceremony performed by the girls.
Coin Collection boost by Stillorgan Credit Union – May 2014
The coin collection for the Classroom set of Tablets has been gathering momentum and was given a brilliant boost this month by the kind and generous donation of €500 from The Stillorgan Credit Union (SCU). Niamh O’Doherty Chairperson and Caitriona Kelly Puca Deputy Manager of SCU came to assembly on 7th May and presented the much appreciated cheque to Sr Mary. We are very grateful for their continued support for our school and we appreciate the time they took to visit us. We also thank them for hosting a collection box in their branch.
Credit Union is available to the girls of 2nd class upwards every Friday morning in the library and thanks to Lorraine O’Toole and Clare Cramer who are there to manage the facility. It’s easy to join and a great way to encourage saving from a young age. There are lots of girls already regularly saving small amounts which will add up to a nice sum of money for them to buy something special.
Car Park Safety Competition – March 2014
There was a very high standard of entry from all the girls throughout the school which made it all the more difficult to pick one winner per class! Many thanks to our panel of judges – Ms. Sullivan, Ms. Corry and Aisling Pinkney, and congratulations to all the winners. Thanks also to Majella Murray from the Road Safety Authority for attending our awards ceremony and for providing a little gift for each child in the school. All the winning entries are displayed below.
Signage has been erected throughout the Car Park and we ask all parents and guardians to heed these signs. Please pass this message on to anyone responsible for dropping off or collecting your child. Together we can make the car park a safer place for our children.
Style Savvy – January 2014
Laura Jordan gave a very engaging and informative talk at the Style Savvy presentation on 23rd January to an audience of forty-five Mums and Teachers. Everyone went away with lots of pointers on organising your wardrobe and how to shop savvy for clothes! €225 was raised from the evening for the new extension fund and many thanks to Ms Jordan for donating her time and skills and to Fiona O’Connell for organising the event.
Healthy Lunch Competition Awards 2013
Participation level in the Healthy Lunch Competition was high and the standard of entries was excellent which made judging all the more difficult! 3 winners were chosen from each class and these were announced in the school hall at midday on Friday 8th March when all the children and teachers came together for the awards ceremony.
The event was made extra special by Catherine Fulvio, celebrity chef, author of a number of cook books and Proprietor of Ballyknocken House and Cookery School (www.ballyknockenhouse.com) who came to talk to the girls about her love of cooking, her favorite healthy foods and about adding colour to our plates!
Catherine arrived to a very warm welcome with rapturous applause from the girls and she gave a very entertaining and informative talk. After this she kindly stayed on to be involved in the prize giving ceremony and the girls were delighted to have their photo taken with Catherine when receiving their award certificates and prizes.
Well done to all the winners and to everyone who participated in the competition and thank you to Catherine for taking time out of her very busy schedule to visit our school and for making the event so special. The winning entries will be displayed on the notice boards in the main corridor of the school.
